Linden Street Brewery is holding the first ever Jamaican Jerk Cook-Off this Saturday (May 1st) from 1pm-6pm at their brewery in West Oakland.
Jerk, for those of you who don't know (like me), is a way of cooking meat with certain spices marinated or rubbed into the meat. I for one have never tried it and am eager to get tasting. There will be four teams competing in the cook-off and the winner will be picked by the audience.
While this is all going on there will be beer from Linden Street Brewery, wine from Periscope Cellars in Emeryville, live music (DJ's and a reggae band), and maybe even a little chocolate.
All proceeds help fund a local soccer camp which gives free lessons to children in the area. "The money raised will allow My Yute Soccer Camp to continue on their mission to provide free soccer camps, educate youth in soccer, and promote awareness of socio-cultural differences for the general public." So not only will you have a good time, but you'll be helping kids too!
Forecast says a nice sunny day and the event is only $25. Hope to see you there!
